SCALING AND ROOT PLANNING
Light bleeding may occur for 24-48 hours. Cold wet compress can be applied to the area.
The "numbness" should wear off in approximately 2-4 hours. However, every patient is different and these effects can last up to several hours in some cases.
Any Ibuprofen or Tylenol products can be used to control mild discomfort providing that you have no allergies to these types of medications.
Cold liquids may be consumed immediately. Avoid hot liquids for 12 hours and drinking through a straw for 24 hours following therapy.
A softer diet (food easily cut with a fork) is recommended for the first 24 hours. Try to chew on the non-therapy side.
Brush lightly after eating or before bedtime. Avoid aggressive swishing for 24 hours. All home care may resume after 24 hours, including electric toothbrushes.
You may begin oral rinses of antiseptic or prescription mouthwashes after 24 hours.
Avoid extreme exertion for the first 12 hours following therapy.
